Praktiker in Europe
Praktiker is one of the leading DIY companies in Europe, and is active in 10 countries. Praktiker Építési- és Barkácspiacok Magyarország Kft. is the Hungarian arm of the Praktiker Concern. The first Praktiker DIY store was built in Luxembourg in 1978, and since then a whole chain of stores has been established, spanning Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, the Ukraine and Hungary. The company currently employs 21,000 people across Europe.

Praktiker in Hungary
We opened our first store in Budapest next to the M3 motorway in 1998. Then 5 large cities followed: Pécs, Székesfehérvár, Debrecen, Szeged and Győr. In 1999 we opened new Praktiker stores in Kecskemét, Nyíregyháza and Miskolc. In 2000, two new stores in Budapest were unveiled, at the Pest-side bridgehead of Lágymányosi bridge, and on Bécsi street., Further stores followed; in Szombathely in 2001, in Budaörs in 2002, and in Zalaegerszeg in 2003. The 15th store in Hungary opened in Szolnok in 2004. We are continuously modernizing and developing our 15 stores in Hungary, and have succeeded in converting or expanding 4 of our stores in the past few years. We consider healthy and organic growth important, which is why we are going to open a new store next year, with other new openings planned.

Praktiker’s product range
In Praktiker stores, a wide selection of, recreational, home decoration, household and technical products classically characteristic of DIY stores are offered in well-organized product groups. Praktiker offers nearly 70,000 products. Nearly 20 percent of the chain’s suppliers are international companies, but 80% are Hungarian ones, which provides a means of support to the domestic economy.
